[Worldtrippers home] [2025 Crystal-Viking]

Bergen, Norway

Our itinerary for the next two weeks

Yesterday was said to be the best weather in Bergen since 1966. Today the sun was still out, but it was windy and much colder. We still had a full day here before we set sail, so we set out on a hike in honor of Russell’s birthday.

Mt. Fløyen overlooks Bergen from a height of 1,300 feet. We took the funicular up to the top, took a long hike to Lake Skomakerdiket, then took the funicular back down. We stopped for a second and final lunch of Bergen’s Norwegian hot dogs, then returned to the ship. All the walking reached the endurance limit of Gail’s back, which has been bothering her again.

Gail grew up with beagles, so whenever she sees one, she likes to say “hello”

At 6:30 pm, Russell had his “first” lecture since we re-boarded. While 220 guests are continuing on from the World Cruise, we also have 700+ guests who have newly embarked. It is always a challenge to get an audience for the first lecture, so we were gratified to get a nice full house. We are off to a great start.

For the next two weeks, we are on a Viking itinerary called “Iceland & Norway’s Arctic Explorer.” We will sail up the west coast of Norway above the Arctic Circle. We will travel as far north as Longyearbyen, the world’s northernmost settlement. We will then head southwest to Iceland. Over the past several months, we have been lucky to have almost continuous sunshine. But we are expecting the weather to get colder – and the seas to get rougher – going forward.
